　　一、作“是……還是……”解時，whether表示一種選擇，其后可以跟介詞短語或不定式短語。

　　1. 后跟介詞短語。例如：

　　(1)She made the mistake whether by accident or by design.

　　不知她是偶然還是故意去犯這個錯誤的。

　　(2)Whether through choice or obedience I don”t know, but he certainly did all the work very well.

　　1. 引導主語從句。引導主語從句時，可用it作形式主語。例如：

　　(2)Whether we shall be able to come is doubtful. (= It is doubtful whether we shall be able to come. )我們是否能夠來，尚不確定。

　　2. 引導賓語從句。這時whether可與if換用。例如：

　　4. 引導同位語從句。它的前面通常有fact, conclusion, news, problem, question, idea, doubt等名詞作同位語結構的中心詞。例如：
